There are a few other factors that I think contribute to the decay of a meme’s humor.
One is originality: if someone tells you a good joke you’ve never heard before, it’s funny, but if someone tells you a good joke you’ve heard a hundred times from a hundred people, then they’re just copying a more skilled comedian.

I think it’s because people use them out of context so much they ruin the meme’s reputation.?
